Abstract

The kinetics of oxidation of antimony(III) by chromium(VI) has been studied in the temperature range 30–45°C. The energy and entropy of activation, when a high concentration of antimony(III) reacts with a low concentration of chromium(VI) to give a 1:1 complex, have been evaluated as 9.4±0.5 kcal mol −1 and −43.8±0.1 cal k −1 mol −1, respectively. The corresponding values for the reaction of a low antimony(III) with a high chromium(VI) concentration are not very different, being 9.7±0.2 kcal mol −1 and −40.20±0.17 cal k −1 mol −1.
