Abstract

1. The kinetics of the hydrolysis of N-methylorthonitroacetanilide in aqueous solutions of potassium hydroxide in the range from 2.94 to 40.8% KOH was studied by a spectrophotometric method at 25°. 2. The singly ionized form does not possess reactivity. The activated complex of the process is formed from the doubly ionized form and two water molecules. The calculated equilibrium constant of formation of the singly ionized form is equal to 7.8.
