Abstract

1. The solubilities of N-methyl-para-nitroaniline and N,N-dimethyl-para-nitroaniline in aqueous solutions of potassium hydroxide and the distribution coefficients of N-methylortho-nitroacetanilide, N-methyl-para-nitroacetanilide, N-methyl-meta-nitroacetanilide, ortho-nitroacetanilide, and para-nitroacetanilide between inert solvents and aqueous solutions of potassium hydroxide at 23–25° were measured. 2. The change in the activity coefficients of anilides and anilines with the concentration is described by the Sechenov equation, as well as by the empirical equation obtained. 3. The ionization constants of ortho-nitroacetanilide and para-nitroacetanilide in aqueous solutions of KOH were determined.
