Abstract
This study evaluated microplastic levels in surface water and sediment in Tien River basin (a branch of the Mekong River flowing through Vietnam). Water and sediment samples was taken at 18 sites along the Tien River basin. Samples was treated base on the Fenton reactions (H2O2/Fe2 ) and the density separation with ZnCl2. The results show that microplastic levels in surface water and sediment are 218 microplastic/m3 and 1159 microplastic/kg dry weight, respectively. The fiber is the most shape of microplastics in all samples. The colors of microplastics was evaluated, there are 6 colors: white, green, blue, black, gray and red with the white is the most popular. This research provides a database on microplastic pollution in surface water and sediment in the Tien River basin.
