Abstract

This exploratory study aims to review the effectiveness of the Tahsin Al-Sowt Method (KTA) on the ability to read the Quran. According to Nik Jaafar (2012) and Najmiah (2017), one of the factors of the inability to read the Qur'an properly is the lack of importance given to the tahsin al-sowt curriculum or voice in the teaching and learning approach (PdP). KTA in this study is a comprehensive (holistic) PdP - combining tahsin al-sowt, tajweed and taranum bi al-Quran curriculum in an integrated manner. The objective of the study is to analyse whether KTA can improve the skills of the three components. The study sample size of 20 people includes 10 women and 10 men. Questionnaires using a Likert scale, Pearson's rank correlation coefficient search, pre and post KTA scores. Preliminary findings show that there is a positive correlation between KTA and motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic) of the participants with an R (correlation) Pearson rank value of 0.3599. The study continued by reviewing the improvement of the reading skills of the respondents by using a formative rubric scoring scheme with the acquisition of an average percentage pre-KTA (43.6%) compared to post-KTA (67.7%) - an increase of 24.1%. KTA has potential as an alternative approach that can be explored and utilized in formal and informal contexts for adult participants as shown in this study.
