Abstract

Abstract This research is about weaving technique and Jambi songket motif making technique. Because the Jambi songket weaving technique still uses the traditional loom, namely Gedhogan. Gedhogan is a loom whose end is wrapped around the body of the weaver sitting on the floor. Jambi Songket currently has a distinctive songket motif, transformed through Jambi batik motifs and Jambi ancient embroidery. So many people do not know that.This research method is a qualitative method with a case study approach. The types of data are primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are carried out using interactive model analysis techniques related to the subject matter with data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study are weaving techniques consisting of (1) the preparation process starts from designing motifs, connect the yarn to the Papan dayan, straighten the yarn and raise the lidi up. (2) weaving process consisting of inserting the Pakan threads between the Lungsi threads, gun is raised up so that a cavity is formed between the Lungsi threads, turak containing the Pakan threads is inserted into the lungsi thread cavity and wrapped around the papan dayan, lungsi threads alternately above and below so that so on so as to form a sheet of songket cloth. (3) finishing consists of cleaning the remaining thread that is not used on songket fabric. Next, the technique of making a motif or menyungkit consists of designing a motif, there is a process of menyungkit or making motifs based on the count of image, to make motifs using lidi-lidi that function to pry motifs and beliro functions to sort the lungsi threads so that turak which contains pakan threads can be included, The process of inserting it by launching the turak left and right and vice versa.
