Abstract
The problem in this research is that there are many people in Payakumbuh, especially the people of Koto Nan Gadang who do not know the form, function and meaning of sandang cukia kuniang cloth. The purpose of this study was to describe sandang cukia kuniang cloth of Koto Nan Gadang, Payakumbuh in the study of the form, function and philosophical meaning contained in the sandang cukia kuniang cloth of Koto Nan Gadang. This research uses qualitative method. Data collection uses observation, interview and documentation techniques. The research data was collected from a number of informants consisting of traditional experts, headmen, bundo kanduang, and local people who understood sandang cukia kuniang cloth of Koto Nan Gadang . Furthermore, the data is reviewed and analyzed by the steps of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The validity of the data is done by prolongation of observation, increasing perseverance and triangulation. The results of this study obtained the form of sandang cukia kuniang cloth consists of takuluak ikek cukia kuniang bajumbai, black talokuang baminsia, sungkuik mato batabua, kuruang basiba cloth, lambak baminsia and lambak songket, sandang cukia kuniang, dukua nashura, regular dukua, dukua rago-rago, dukua koban, dukua panyaram, golang ula, golang rago-rago or kunci maniak, golang ketek, golang gadang, daily ring and gem ring. The function of this clothing set is to be worn in the appointment ceremony of the headman and festivity. At the appointment ceremony of the headman, this cloth is worn to shop at the market, to pick up clothesline or to take rice in the rangkiang of rumah gadang, mamanggia or traditional invitation and to participate in the procession. The philosophical meaning contained in sandang cukia kuniang cloth is symbolizing the Minang woman aged 40-55 years. Keywords: Sandang Cukia Kuniang cloth, Cloth, Minangkabau
