Abstract

Every human being has potentialities of inherently being a preacher to call on or influence others to follow what he delivers. In Islam, human goodness is, among others, measured by indicators that he is useful and helpful to others. Islamic studies at universities, as one of the factors having dakwah (propagation) substances by, for example, organizing students in a sometimes-structured program, have the same function, namely by increasing and improving the quality of students' diversity, which according to Jalaluddin Rahmat can and should be viewed as a comprehensive commitment consisting of such aspects as mystical, ritual, ideological, intellectual and social. On account of the Islamic studies at universities have generally the dakwah substances to the academicians, there are some important points that could be taken into account as the opportunities and capital as well (1) the development of spiritual yearning among students (2) the revival of spiritualism (3) the establishment of campus mosques littered fully with various activities (4) the diversity of religious understanding (5) the amount of accessible information. The dakwah (propagation) movements on campus can take various forms (1) Tilawah (recitation) with the aim of paying more attention to the natural phenomena as the signs of Allah with such indicators as the way of thinking and the remembrance of God (zikr); (2) Tazkiyah (purification) with the aim of maintaining and purifying the self both physically and spiritually. (3) Ta'lim (religious study) with the aim of reading, understanding and reflecting the Qur'anic verses with the indicator of being able to recite the Qur'an. (4) Islah (reconciliation) with the aim of having a sensitivity to others with the indicator of having social sensitivity. All these could be used as the form and purpose of Islamic studies at universities that essentially have dakwah substances.
