Abstract

The effect of the deuteron D-state on exact finite-range DWBA calculations has been investigated for l = 3 transitions in the reaction 54Cr(p, d) 53Cr leading to the 1.001 MeV ( 5 2 −) and 1.284 MeV ( 7 2 −) levels at 17.5 MeV proton bombarding energy. The effect upon the j-dependence of the differential cross sections and the corresponding proton analyzing powers and deuteron vector and tensor polarizations has been studied. Inclusion of the D-state was found to have a much smaller j-dependence effect upon the differential cross section than is observed experimentally.
