Abstract
Abstract The paper reports and discusses the findings of a study on the EC Framework Programme and the technology strategies of European firms, which was part of a larger project on the impact of the Framework Programme on European industry. It discusses the influence of three sets of factors that may interfere in the exploitation of EC RD factors relating to the RD and factors that differentiate EC R&D projects from those undertaken by individual firms without EC support. A qualitative enquiry covering 26 organizations gives rise to some conclusions as to the exploitability of EC R&D.
