Abstract

Taking into account the numerous occurrences of elements of fauna in the artistic work of Isabel Meyrelles, considered as the first Portuguese surrealist woman, this article proposes the reading and analysis of the presence of animals in her poetry, in the light of zoopoetic studies. Starting from the framework of French and Portuguese surrealism, the origin and symbolism of animals in surrealism will be investigated, as well as the monitoring of the process of construction of a poetic and sculptural bestiary in Isabel Meyrelles.
