Abstract

Abstract Water transportation can play important role in urban logistic system as an alternative to car transportation. Although to contribute to the improvement of environmental conditions, as in the case of cars, the possibility of using alternative drives should be considered. The primary aim of the article is to analyze the possibility of using electric propulsion systems in small vessels used not only for recreational purposes, but also for freight transportation within the city. For the purpose of the article the latest solutions in the field of urban transport were analyzed, a historical outline on the development of electric propulsion systems of vessels was made and current trends in this area were presented. The advantages and disadvantages of using selected electric propulsion systems and their sources of power were indicated, as the chances of development and popularization of electric propulsion systems of vessels are primarily dependent on the parameters of available batteries. The article is based on a literature analysis, documentary research and observation.
