Abstract

Iris is an accurate but vulnerable trait which is widely used in biometric system. To protect iris recognition module, an additional process called liveness detection is integrated into biometric system. The primary objective of this paper is to review the recent progress in iris liveness detection. For this purposes, we categorize iris liveness detection approaches into sensor-level method, which add extra hardware to detect vital signal of subjects, and feature-level method, which use algorithm implemented in software to analysis liveness of the presentation. In order to acquire a better understanding of this field, we describe some presentation attack methods and introduce some competition and dataset for iris liveness detection. To sum up, big achievement of iris liveness detection have been made in last five years, but there is still the need to devote further efforts to build more security biometric systems.
