Abstract
Ionization caused by β-decay of hydrogen-3(tritium)and strontium-90 has been studied by means of a pulse-counting mode of mass spectrometer; Radiation sources are a titanium plate 10mm×15mm carrying, 150 mCi tritium in the form of titanium hyand a silver plate of 12.5mm square with 5 mCi strontium-90 protected by an extremely thin layer of gold. Target materials are H2 and He gases with the natural abundance ratios. Dependence of the ion peak height on the gas pressure has been examined in the of10-4-10-7 Torr, and come to two types of expressions, linear and of cube root. Mechanism of ion formation in this system is discussed, and its tempting applications are presented.
