Abstract

Herein, the combined effects of tilt angle (θ) and position (MP) of mirror-lamp (M−L) systems on rutile crystal growth were examined using the infrared convergent-heating floating zone (IR-FZ) method. A θ value of 5.0° was effective in increasing the diameters of both the feed rod and grown crystal, yielding a grown crystal diameter of 21 mm using a feed rod with a diameter of 22 mm at MP = 0 mm. Therefore, the convergent position of the M−L system lies on the rotation axes of the feed rod and grown crystal. The grown crystal diameter was increased by θ and MP optimization. The maximum diameter of the grown crystal achieved to 24 mm in the condition of the θ = 7.5° and MP = 4 mm, using a feed rod with a diameter of 25 mm.
