Abstract
Purpose: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most frequent musculoskeletal disorder, and it is estimated to affect over 303 million people worldwide. Pain is the most predominant symptom followed by mobility limitations, having a great impact in both physical and mental wellbeing of patients. OA places a significant socio-economic burden on societies, and due to the overall ageing of the population and the increasing prevalence of obesity it is expected an increase of 50% in the number of people with OA over the next 20 years.
