Abstract
The interactions between clonidine, morphine, and the abstinence- producing benzazocine, UM-1046, were evaluated on the isolated mouse vas deferens and guinea-pig ileum preparations. In the vas deferens in the presence of UM-1046, the concentration-effect curves for both morphine and clonidine were shifted to the right without a change in the maximum response. In the guinea-pig ileum, only the curve for clonidine was shifted to the right and the maximum responses to both clonidine and morphine were reduced markedly. Naltrexone antagonized the effects of clonidine upon the vas deferens but not upon the ileum.
