Abstract
The batochromic shift in UV absorption spectra of aqueous solutions of mixtures of potassium ethylxanthate (EtXK) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) was observed for concentrations higher than the CMC value. The concentration, molar extinction coefficient, and absorption maximum wavelength of xanthate bonded to the micelle were evaluated from the magnitude of the batochromic shift, assuming formation of mixed micelles. The ratio of the number of EtX − ions to the number of DTA + ions in the mixed micelle and the value of ΔG o of EtX − ion adsorption at the micelle surface were estimated.
