Abstract
Interaction of Cu(II) ions with poly(4-vinylpyridine) carying luminescent labels was studied in aqueous methanol by means of the luminescence quenching method. The dependence of fluorescence intensity on the concentration of the quencher (cupric ions) does not obey the Stern-Volmer equation. An analysis of this experimental dependence led to the conclusion that the distribution of metal ions between the macromolecules is not uniform. The kinetics of the exchange of metal ions between occupied and free macromolecules was investigated.
