Abstract

Treatment of rats with aminoacetonitrile prevents the production of single strand breaks in hepatic DNA by the carcinogen dimethylnitrosamine as determined by alkaline sucrose gradient analysis. It is suggested that this damage to DNA by the nitrosamine is dependent on metabolism of this carcinogen to an active methylating agent.
