Abstract

"References to English in the process of learning Spanish, as well as observation of similarities between these languages, may contribute to increasing enthusiasm and motivation to learn both languages. The observed analogies between languages also help to build a greater sense of self-confidence in students and their trust in the correctness of their language decisions during lessons and outside of classes. Similarities are particularly evident in the lexis. Using intercomprehension approach in the teaching and learning of foreign languages makes learners aware of language dependencies. The role of teachers seems to be important here; they can deepen their students’ positive attitude to learning another language or languages in general. Learners should be aware that their previous experiences will influence the process of mastering a new language. The goal is that students want to learn a different language because they see the effects of learning a previously learned language."
