Abstract

The article deals with the historical and legal aspects of the development of information support for the activity of law enforcement agencies from the ancient times to the present. Particular attention is paid to the history of law enforcement activities in the Ukrainian lands in the XIXth and XXth centuries. The author came to the conclusion that development of informatization of the activity of law-enforcement system of the state in Ukraine took place in accordance with the European and world tendencies. As a result, it is noted that the historical and legal analysis of the problem under investigation shows that information provision of law enforcement bodies is an important element of their functioning. Law-enforcement bodies take their origins from the moment of launch of official law-enforcement activity and depend on the level of development of legal norms and mechanisms for their implementation. Organization of law enforcement activities (that is, the basis for ensuring the functioning of law enforcement bodies) is characteristic of every historical socio-political system. The development of the informatization of the activity of the law-enforcement system of the state in Ukraine took place in accordance with the European and world tendencies. Its beginning dates back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and peaked in the twentieth and twenty centuries. The use of information technology may become the main factor in strengthening the rule of law, ensuring the country's defense capability, social and political stability and the development of democratic principles in the management of the state.
