Abstract

The North Caucasian Federal District is a geostrategic macroregion and acts as the main transit corridor connecting the Russian Federation with the countries of the Transcaucasus and the Middle East. Ensuring sustainable socio-economic development, reducing inter-regional differentiation is a strategic task of the Russian Federation, aimed at maintaining the integrity of the state, strengthening economic security. The regions of the North Caucasus have favorable conditions for the development of agriculture, the recreational and tourist complex, and industry. At the same time, in terms of such key indicators as gross regional product per capita, labor productivity, and average monthly wages, the macroregion lags behind most federal districts. In this connection, an objective assessment of the socio-economic situation of the regions of the North Caucasian Federal District is an urgent practical task.
