Abstract

Indicators of the standard of living of the population reflect the degree of the economic development of the region, its production and economic potential, and attractiveness for the population. Therefore, in our opinion, there is a dependence of the demographic situation on the quality of life of the population of the region, as well as on the main financial and economic indicators, such as the gross regional product. An analysis of the relationship of all these indicators helps identify the problems of the economic development of the region and ways to solve them. The study analyzes the impact of indicators of the standard of living, such as the average monthly wage, as well as the ratio of the average monthly wage to the subsistence minimum, on changes in the population of the region. The mutual influence of the gross regional product and the living standards of the population is considered. The production of gross regional product per capita was chosen as the main indicator of the assessment. The analysis includes data from two regions of Western Siberia – Novosibirsk and Tomsk Oblasts, and two regions of Eastern Siberia – Irkutsk Oblast and Zabaykalsky Krai for the period 2000–2021. The comparison shows that the factors of the standard of living of the population and the production of the gross regional product have an impact on the demographic situation in the region only in their combination. The influence of each individual factor, both on the population and on the standard of living, as a rule, is insignificant. People’s expectations are also of particular importance, that is, the population is growing, there is migration to the region if the region has high rates of growth in the standard of living and economic development, despite the relatively low current rates. The results of the study can be used for further broader analysis and forecasting of indicators of the standard of living of the population in the regions and in Russia in general.
