Abstract

It is shown that changes in the viscosity properties of isocyanate prepolymers during their high temperature synthesis are due to allophanate formation. The increasing degree of prepolymer branching leads, at a definite critical value, to a marked increase in the initial viscosity owing to the formation of a structural network.
