Abstract
The dynamic response of small wind turbine tower under random wind load is studied, and the influence of the structure parameters, such as the outer diameter and wall thickness of the tower, on the vibration response and the bottom bending strength is studied. The stochastic wind speed is simulated by using the harmonic superposition method with FFT, The random load is calculated by the blade element- momentum theory, Based on the simplified model of wind turbine dynamics, the vibration response of the tower is obtained, and the bending strength of the tower bottom is checked. The calculation results show that it is helpful to control the maximum displacement and the maximum bending stress at the bottom of the tower in the safe operation range of the tower, and is significant to reduce cost, lightweight and safe operation by the proper selection of structure parameters.
