Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of inorganic and organic (chelated) trace minerals supplementation on nutrient utilization and blood parameters in crossbred cows. Fifteen crossbred cows were randomly divided in three groups of 5 animals each. In group G1, the animals were fed on wheat straw based diet and did not receive mineral mixture whereas the animals of experimental group 2 (G2) and group 3 (G3) were fed a similar basal feed along with inorganic and organic trace minerals, respectively. A digestion trial of 7 days duration was conducted during 60 d of feeding trial. The supplementaion of inorganic and organic trace minerals improved (P<0.01) digestibility of DM, OM, CP, CF, NFE and NDF. The digestibility of ADF and EE was similar in all the groups. The DCP and TDN values improved (P<0.01) in group G3. The intake (kg/d) of digestible DM, OM, CP and TDN was higher (P<0.01) in group G3 in comparison to groups G2 and G1. The supplementation of both inorganic and organic trace minerals increased (P<0.05) hemoglobin and PCV values but blood glucose level remained unaffected. This study inferred that dietary supplementation of inorganic and organic (chelated) trace minerals improved nutrient utilization and blood biochemical parameters in crossbred cows.
