Abstract
Small increases in lactate production and in glucose utilization were observed when human red cells were incubated in Tris-Ringer's medium with 5 mM adenosine 3′, 5′-monophosphate (cyclic 3′, 5′-AMP) or its dibutyryl analogue. 5 mM caffeine facilitated this response whereas 5′-AMP, cyclic 2′, 3′-AMP, and guanosine 3′, 5′-AMP had no effect.
