Abstract

The formation of a chiral nematic mesophase by doping a liquid crystalline mixture of 4-alkyloxy-4′-cyanobiphenyls with chiral 4-[(S)-2-methyl-3-hydroxypropyloxy]-4′-cyanobiphenyl was determined by polarizing thermomicroscopy. The temperature dependences of the mixtures permittivity were measured. A decrease in the dielectric anisotropy was shown with an increase in the chiral dopant concentration associated with a change in the mesophase associative state and induction of the chiral mesophase.
