Abstract

Abstract This paper encompasses the experimental effect of Aluminium parabolic fins as energy absorption material in single basin double slope solar still compared with conventional still without fins. A single basin dual slope single basin solar still is made of a wooden box outside and aluminium on the inside 1 × 0.5 × 0.2 m. Still with parabolic fins of 50 mm height and 30 mm diameter. Experimentation was carried out under the same climatic conditions of Hyderabad (17.3850° N, 78.4867° E) by the varying depth of water (1 cm, 2 cm and 3 cm) experimental results depicts that parabolic finned basin still attained a maximum of 1250 ml per day and the conventional still attained maximum of 1180 ml per day, parabolic finned basin still has got 70 ml higher than conventional still. The elevated fraction of the heat was carried from the absorber plate to basin water because of the thin film of water at 1 cm depth of water which results in higher desalinated water productivity.
