Abstract

In situ preconcentration of volatile indium hydride into a pre-heated graphite furnace coated with palladium, which was used as both the collection medium and atomizer, greatly improved the sensitivity for the determination of indium by hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry. Palladium was found to be a very efficient adsorbent for indium hydride. The operating conditions were optimized and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to characterize the sample deposits on the graphite platform surface. The method is linear up to 50 ng and the characteristic mass for indium was found to be 0.63 ng.
