Abstract
Photoluminescence of ultrafine particles of AgBr with diameters between 7.9 and 21.6 nm revealed two interesting effects associated with the decrease of particle size. One is an enhancement of indirect exciton luminescence, and the other is a unique high energy shift of the exciton band. These observations are discussed, in terms of the mixing of direct-exciton character due to quantum-confinement of indirect-exciton and the isolation of impurities from majority of the particles.
