Abstract

The curative treatment par excellence for lung cancer is thoracic surgery. All patients with resectable lung tumors should be offered the possibility of treating it with surgery. Proper staging and a multidisciplinary discussion to decide on the resectability of a tumor are essential. In early stages, the treatment of choice for eligible patients is thoracic surgery. A correct lymph node dissection to confirm the complete resection of the tumor is essential. The evaluation of a multidisciplinary committee is necessary for the proper treatment of locally advanced tumors. Thoracic surgery also has palliative indications for resolving complications arising from the principal tumor or its metastases.
