Abstract

Abstract The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) training program in Cardiothoracic Surgery provides trainees with clinical and operative experience in both cardiac and thoracic surgical conditions. The training program is generally undertaken sequentially over a 6 year period. The training program produces independent practitioners of both Adult Cardiac Surgery and General Thoracic Surgery. Training and subsequent admission to Fellowship is overseen centrally by the RACS, and such grants individuals the privilege to practice independently as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon. The training curriculum is expected to continually evolve in order to optimally equip trainees for contemporary practice.
