Abstract
Changes in ferroelectric properties caused by x- and γ-radiation are due to defects created by internal irradiation with photoelectrons and Compton electrons with energies spread over an energy spectrum. In the present work, the changes in ferroelectric properties of TGS crystals were studied in their dependence on the energy of a monoenergetic incident electron beam. Analysis of experimental results permits the conclusion that the changes in ferroelectric properties of TGS are due essentially to defects created in ionizing processes by electrons of incident energies up to about 0.35 MeV. At higher electron energies the changes are also due to defects produced by direct collisions of incident electrons with lattice atoms and multiple atom displacements.
