Abstract

Incidence of impacted mandibular canine: A case report

Highlights

  • This article presents 1 case report of impacted mandibular canine which was successfully operated in our institute

  • Impaction of maxillary canine is more prevalent compared to lower mandibular canine, whereas transmigration can be more seen in cases of lower mandibular canine.10As stated by recent reports of 2017 systematic review, the treatment modalities for impacted canines are based on type of impaction i.e., whether it is an impacted tooth or along with impaction it has transmigrated.[10]

  • Patient was advised for orthopantomogram, which confirmed presence of impacted canine situated at root apices of mandibular incisors

Summary

Introduction

This article presents 1 case report of impacted mandibular canine which was successfully operated in our institute. Patient was advised for orthopantomogram, which confirmed presence of impacted canine situated at root apices of mandibular incisors. In scenarios of impacted mandibular canines, the presence of pressure demineralization of adjacent tooth roots, periodontal disorders, or other feasible foci for the spread of infection, prosthetic issues, malposition of the mandibular incisors, and neuralgic manifestations have been embedded as indications for surgical treatment.[13] Tumours, cysts, and odontomes can evoke tooth malpositioning, if they are in the path of eruption of the tooth.[7] An orthopantomogram is best suited for locating any malposition or ectopic position of the impacted tooth placed at the inferior border of mandible. The tooth is in an oblique or tilted position.[11]
