Abstract

This article deals with the investigation of floral still-life in 17th-century Dutch painting and the special meaning of tulips in such works. The author points out the problem of the unique position of this flower in the every-day life and its place in the Dutch economy and the system of cultural and aesthetic values. The paper investigates botanical drawings of flowers as well as flower still-lifes and history paintings, which could be interpreted profoundly when one takes into account the meaning of tulip.
