Abstract

This study was a classroom action research to obtain information about the research problems. It aimed to improve the students’ speaking skills by using storytelling. The subject of this study was the class x students of MAS Nurul Yaqin. The researcher conducted this research in class with four steps: plan, action, observation and evaluation, and reflection. The data were collected from the teaching and learning process, teacher and students’ observation sheets, and students’ achievements in every cycle. Based on the result of the mean score and performance indicator in two cycles, it can be concluded that the students achieved better scores in speaking after the treatments given. It can be seen from the mean score in cycle I was 52.78, and the increase in cycle II was 16.67. Also, the percentage of students’ performance indicators in cycle II (83.33 %) was higher than in cycle 1 (47.22 %). The result shows an improvement in every cycle of the students’ speaking skills taught through the implementation of storytelling. In conclusion, storytelling improves students' skills in class x of MAS Nurul Yaqin, academic year 2023/2024. It can be suggested that the teacher use it as an alternative strategy in teaching speaking
