Abstract

• Y 2 O 3 addition causes the evolution of microstructure and distribution of TiC. • Y 2 O 3 addition increases hardness and adhesive strength of the coating. • Adding Y 2 O 3 inhibits the crack of coating in the LBE cavitation erosion condition. This work proves that Y 2 O 3 addition could significantly improve the mechanical properties of laser cladded FeCrAlTiC coatings. Due to the formation of Y 2 TiO 5 and Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 after adding Y 2 O 3 , the TiC particles in coating were refined and their morphologies changed from short bar to sphere. Comparing with the coatings without Y 2 O 3 , the microhardness of the coating increased by 9.88 %, and the adhesive strength of the coating increased by 53.7 %. Moreover, the coating adding Y 2 O 3 showed much better cavitation erosion resistance in high temperature liquid Pb-Bi alloys than the coatings without Y 2 O 3 .
