Abstract
A study of durability test was piezoelectric stack actuator having various values of Qm, Tc, Ec and bending strength. The high bending strength but low Ec stack showed a decrease of displacement and appeared cracks which occurred at the edge of positive side of PZT pellet and grown to the center of diameter and negative side. Cyclic domain rotation at high temperature is considered the reason of this slow crack growth, never mean brittle fracture for ceramics. The decomposed pellets from the high Ec but low Qm stack appeared deterioration of kp. The increase of temperature of low Qm stack was higher than that of high Qm stack for a starting temperature of 120°C with 130Hz drive. It is considered that low self-heating is caused by a small domain rotation introduced by more addition of the acceptor element. The result of this small self-heating, therefore, 2% deterioration in displacement was observed in high Qm and Tc stack. The change of current-voltage properties of the high Qm and Tc stack appeared to be small compared with the low Qm and Tc stack. The increase of current properties is considered because of the repeated domain rotation or displacement hysteresis loop in the low Qm and Tc sample. It appears that Qm and Tc values have a strong influence on durability in addition of Ec and bending strength.
