Abstract

Value stream mapping is a lean manufacturing approach which is originated from Toyota Production System. Manufacturing organizations in particular are following lean manufacturing approach in the recent years to improve the efficiency of operations by eliminating and reducing wastes. In this paper effort is made to identify non value adding activities or waste in the present production process in aerospace industry. Also proposed a plan to improve the overall efficiency of the operations and demonstrated using value stream mapping by focusing on the reduction of cycle time, total lead time and waiting time by proposing a new de-burring layout.
