Abstract

Impact tests have been conducted to examine the influence of quantity as well as types of steel fibre on the penetration resistance of, and damage to, 50mm thick steel fibre reinforced (SFR) concrete panels. Two fibre volume fractions and three types of steel fibres were used in this study. Results of the relative damage and penetration are compared for each panel. Penetration was accurately estimated for the plain concrete target. It is concluded that normal reinforcement, adequate fibre content and fibre configuration are necessary ingredients to increase damage tolerance and survivability of thin concrete targets.
