Abstract

The fault current limiter (FCL) can be installed upstream and downstream from the circuit breaker. With regards to short-line fault in power transmission lines installed with FCL under different current limiting riot, the impact of the installation position of FCL on transient recovery voltage and the rate of rise of recovery voltage (RRRV) were studied. The presence of the FCL reduces recovery voltage, regardless of the installation position of FCL were upstream or downstream from the circuit breaker. Whereas the different installation position of FCL have no impact on the RRRV of circuit breaker. Comparing the voltage at the source-side terminal of FCL under different position of FCL, the voltage was relatively low when FCL is installed downstream from the circuit breaker. In other words, the best installation position of FCL is downstream form the circuit breaker.
