Abstract

This paper examines the role played by new technologies for the creation of the so-called “smart tourism destinations”: if new technologies are radically transforming the tourism market, and the way to experience tourism, smart destinations will have to be more and more able to respond to changes by innovating their offer. The study shows the results of an interdisciplinary laboratory experiment that involved some Ph.D. students of course in “Cultures, Literatures, Tourism and Territory” of the University of Sassari and the companies participating in the "Smart Tourism Destinations" conference, held in Alghero in March 2019. By means of a participatory project development methodology, the Ph.D. students have carried out an analysis of some tourism development opportunities collecting the specialized tourist information to be conveyed by digital and mobile tourist information systems. The main results obtained show how various types of tourist information can converge to enrich the tourist offer of the city of Alghero.
