Abstract
Research in the field of III-V semiconductors and Low Dimensional Structures (LDS) in the Slovak Republic (eastern part of the former Czechoslovakia) had to develop under rather unfavourable conditions of economic and political barriers. However, the research history in this field is more than 20 years old and this is an excellent background to the research activities that are presently expanding rapidly. They are concentrated at the Department of Microelectronics of Slovak Technical University (STU) and at Institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
