Abstract
Although inclusive education is implemented in Latvia and children with autistic spectrum disorders must attend general education pre-school groups, where special education programmes are implemented for children with learning or speech development disorders, various educational policy planning documents indicate that children with autism are difficult to include. In order to understand the reasons for this phenomenon, identify possible obstacles and find possible solutions, the employed literature review includes the following parts: inclusive education development trends in the pre-school stage in the world and in Latvia in various political reports, educational policy planning documents, regulatory acts and scientific studies; development profile of a pre-school child with autism spectrum disorders, including the characteristic features of the relevant age group and developmental disorder, and identification of possible obstacles, indicating possible solutions for the provision of pre-school education for children with autism spectrum disorders.
