Abstract
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is promising technique used in today's modern wireless network's to achieve high speed transmission with good spectral efficiency. OFDM is multicarrier modulation technique which offers advantages like Immunity to ISI, timing jitter and robust performance in multi path fading. But the major drawback of OFDM system is that it is very sensitive to carrier frequency offset, causing loss of orthogonality between the sub carriers. The frequency offset can be caused due to mismatch in local oscillator at the transmitter or receiver or by the Doppler phenomenon in mobile channels. Carrier frequency offset degrades the performance of OFDM system by introducing intercarrier interference (ICI). In this paper Raised Cosine windowing is used to mitigate the effect of intercarrier interference in OFDM system and performance of the system is evaluated in terms of bit error rate(BER), intercarrier interference power(ICI) and carrier to interference ratio (CIR)
