Abstract
The review analyzes the information concerning the possibility to delay aging by slowing down development. It is supposed that the rates of development and aging of mammals are modulated by the circadian rhythm generated by the suprachiasmatic nuclei of the hypothalamus. Reversible arrest of growth in certain mammal species can be triggered by enhanced somatostatin synthesis with an inhibition of growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, and melatonin and with a loss of circadian function in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus.
