Abstract
Hydrogels have a polymeric structure that can hold water in their three-dimensional networks thanks to their hydrophilic structure. Hydrogels have become a popular material used in the health field because they can hold water or biological fluids and have a structure similar to living tissues and are a biocompatible material with the ability to swell and shrink with various effects. In addition, providing the desired functionality, being recyclable and sterilizable are the positive aspects of this material. Due to these positive features, hydrogels are considered a material worth working on because they are suitable for dentistry practice. Therefore, various studies have been conducted with hydrogels due to the need for biocompatible materials in dentistry. These studies have also shown that they have found an area of use in dentistry as in the medical world and have provided useful developments. This review aims to examine the studies conducted with hydrogels in terms of dentistry.
