Abstract

Different kinds of chemical reactions taking place in various industries for economic development and their applications provide a better way of living to mankind. Such reactions occur in different types of chemical reactors which are categorized based on their shape, flow pattern, merits and demerits, etc. Hydrodynamics studies, kinetics, thermodynamics, flow patterns, stoichiometry, heat and mass transfer characteristics help predict the behavior of a chemical reactor for process intensification and higher overall efficiency of the process. One such reaction is the Fenton oxidation reaction for the treatment of wastewater that involves activation of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of ferrous ions. The major drawback of this process is the large amount of iron sludge formation. The heterogeneous fluidized-bed Fenton process can be used as an assuring alternative to beat this issue. This includes additional fluidized-bed design parameters in the process. This paper gives a comprehensive review of various studies such as hydrodynamics study, heat and mass characteristics of the fluidized-bed Fenton process. This review highlights influential parameters affecting the performance of the fluidized-bed Fenton process such as hydrodynamic parameters (minimum fluidization velocity, pressure drop, etc.), parameters responsible for the intensification of heat and mass transfer coefficients.
